Book Description
"About Time" serves as the definitive (albeit unofficial) guide to "Doctor Who" Seasons 12 to 17, the main bulk of the Tom Baker era. Written by Lawrence Miles (Faction Paradox) and Tat Wood (SFX, TV Zone), About Time not only examines the usual continuity concerns (alien races, etc.) in bursting detail, but looks at how the political / social issues of the 1970s affected the show's production. Essays in this volume include: "Where (and When) is Gallifrey?", "Why Couldn't the BBC Just Have Spent More Money?", "Why Does Earth Keep Getting Invaded?" and "'War of the Daleks': Should Anyone Believe a Word of It?"

About the Author
Lawrence Miles is the author of… hold on… yeah, eight novels now, the most recent of them being the first volume in the ongoing Faction Paradox series, This Town Will Never Let Us Go. After co-writing Dusted - a guide to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, also published by Mad Norwegian - he suddenly found that he'd been cured, and didn't want to see another episode of Buffy ever again. So once About Time is finished, he's planning on constructing a great ceremonial pyre and burning the complete collection of Doctor Who videos and CDs that's taken him nearly twenty years to assemble.

Recovering academic Tat Wood is the person most compilers of previous guidebooks went to for advice and cultural context. Despite having written for Film Review, TV Zone, Starburst, SFX, Dreamwatch, Doctor Who Magazine, X-pose and just about every major fanzine going, he has a rich, full and complex life. Currently lecturing and tutoring, he is busy mentoring mature students from across the Commonwealth and the new Europe whilst attempting to break into mainstream "literary" fiction. Tragically, this is interrupted by people wanting to get the lyrics to half-forgotten 1960s TV themes ringing him rather than bothering with the Internet (because he's quicker). Although culturally adept and well-rounded, he has lived in Ilford for the last ten years.
