"‘Sabroso' was inspired by a young woman's desire to reproduce her Spanish mother's recipe for paella."
Review
"This is a marvelous cookbook filled with excellent, mouth-watering recipes and lore about South American cuisine. The book has a comprehensive index at the back, and each chapter has its own table of contents. All recipes are easy to follow and are prepared with ingredients that are easily found in most supermarkets. Through the various stories that precede each chapter, one comes to know the four women who inspired this book....What a feast! This is an extremely useful volume that not only provides wonderful recipes, but also expounds on the history of four remarkable Spanish-American women."

"Add a pinch of American and a dash of Spanish, and you've got 'Sabroso: The Spanish American Family Cookbook.' Sabroso means 'tasty' in Spanish and is used to compliment the chef. Here, author Noemi Christina Taylor reproduces her mother's Spanish recipes with American flair.
When Taylor's mom and friends emigrated from Spain, Peru, Colombia and Argentina to a small town in eastern Ohio, they found it difficult to re-create their native dishes. Many of the necessary ingredients weren't available in local supermarkets, forcing them to adapt their recipes to fit American tastes and culture.
'Sabroso' is a collection of family recipes from the four countries. The recipes replicate the flavors of each country, but can easily be re-created in the American kitchen. Also included are essays from Taylor's mother's friends describing their own cultures and the origins of their dishes.
The recipes for Napoleon Chicken, Oysters in Lime Juice or Sweet Potato Cheesecake are sure to make any food connoisseur say 'Sabroso!'"

"In 'Sabroso,' four close friends who hail from Spain, Peru, Argentina and Colombia and came together nearly 25 years ago in, of all places, eastern Ohio, have compiled their native recipes, such as Sevillian eggs, Peruvian cod, Madrid-style tripe, braised tongue and Spanish dough sticks. This collection not only explores each country's culinary traditions, it also endures the challenges of realizing them in an American setting, with recipes adjusted over time for available ingredients in the States."

"This is a collection of recipes and stories from four friends, including Taylor's mother, Nohemi Baez Humphrey, who all followed love and moved to eastern Ohio from their native countries of Spain, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina. 'Sabroso' was inspired by a young woman's desire to reproduce her Spanish mother's recipe for paella. The recipes ...have been adapted and adjusted to fit the ingredients that the four recipe contributors could find in small Midwestern towns and that their American families liked....In her 271-page cookbook, 'Sabroso,' Taylor writes lovingly of the friendship her mother, a native of Spain, shares with Nora Brennan, who's from Colombia; Ana Maria Hudson, originally from Peru; and Lilly Naughton-Cyphert, a native of Argentinia, and shares recipes from the four women."
